New Google Space & Office Hour Changes

To help editors stay informed about feature releases, fixes, and platform updates in real time, we’ve launched a new Google Announcement Space dedicated to Modern Campus CMS. We encourage all editors to join.

Beginning May 13, Open Office Hours will move to a biweekly schedule on Wednesdays from 3:00–4:00 p.m (the next session after May 13 will be May 27). These sessions remain an opportunity to ask questions, troubleshoot issues live, and learn alongside fellow editors. Please continue using the standing Zoom link. Office Hour announcements and reminders will also be shared through the new Google Space whenever sessions are open.

Deadline Updates

Last week, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced a one-year extension for funding recipients to comply with digital accessibility standards under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. The compliance deadline has moved from May 11, 2026, to May 11, 2027.

This follows the recent extension announced by the U.S. Department of Justice regarding the ADA Title II Digital Accessibility Rule, which was previously shared with the Stony Brook community.

While these federal deadlines have shifted, Stony Brook University will continue moving forward with its current migration timeline and expectations for Modern Campus CMS sites. Our focus remains on ensuring university websites are accessible, modernized, and aligned with the university’s updated standards and templates as quickly as possible.

Internal Timeline

To maintain momentum and provide clear expectations, the following internal milestones remain in place:

  • By June 30, 2026: All sites intending to remain live on stonybrook.edu in 2027 must request a new site shell.
  • By August 15, 2026: All sites must be fully cut over and live in the new environment.
  • By January 15, 2027: Remaining sites in the legacy environment will be taken offline.
  • By February 15, 2027: Sites should eliminate broken links and reduce reliance on unnecessary redirects.
  • By April 15, 2027: The majority of redirects will be retired, with select mission-critical redirects evaluated individually.

Thank you for your continued partnership, flexibility, and progress as we move through this major university-wide transition. Your efforts are helping create a more accessible, modern, and sustainable web experience for the Stony Brook community.
