Dear Modern Campus CMS users,
Thank you to everyone who joined last week’s workshop (recording and summary here) and for the continued momentum as more teams begin rebuilding their sites in the new templates. As more editors move into the rebuild phase, we’re seeing great progress across campus and appreciate the thoughtful questions and feedback that have been coming in.
We especially appreciate everyone’s feedback on the new People Utility that we demoed. We are working with our freelance team to identify enhancements and will communicate when they’re completed. For now, you can use the People Directory as it was presented on Friday:
As you use this utility and everything else related to this migration project, please continue to submit your feedback here. It has been incredibly helpful for us to learn about what could still use improvement.
Important Note: New Pages vs. New Sections
We are seeing some confusion when it comes to creating new pages versus new sections during rebuilds. In general:
-
Create a new page when you are adding content within an existing section of your site.
-
Create a new section when you need a new folder that will contain multiple related pages and represent a new level in your site’s structure or navigation.
Sections act as containers for groups of pages, while pages are the individual pieces
of content within those sections. We are writing up a full help article on this and
will add it to the support site when it’s completed.
Another Important Note: Layout Snippets
On the old site, editors often used layout snippets (such as column snippets) to control page structure. Because layouts are now built directly into Page Properties, most pages no longer need layout snippets. Components can usually be placed directly on the page without wrapping them in additional layout structures.
Using additional layout snippets inside these layouts can lead to redundant markup,
incorrect styling, and/or unpredictable spacing. Understanding our three new layout options will help you avoid unnecessary snippets and keep your page structure clean.
We hope to see you at Open Office Hours on Wednesdays and at future demo meetings.
Warm regards,
