    About the Program

    Deakin University has a passion for International education and the Australian Studies Summer School offers the chance to satisfy intellectual and cultural curiosity about one of the world’s most diverse cultures. Learning outcomes include cultural orientation skills; history, culture, and analyses. Additionally, this program will entertain and heighten your understanding of Australia today.

    Students will be hosted on the Geelong Waterfront campus where you step out of the classroom and on to the beach! Housing includes a private room within a shared apartment in a newly built residence hall close to the train station. Students can ride directly to downtown Melbourne in just 50 minutes. The program includes cultural excursions in Melbourne and a Learn to Surf excursion on the world famous Great Ocean Road.

    To facilitate the airport pick up service to Deakin University, the study abroad office will provide a flight to students accepted to the program.

    Additional Information A Partner University program is a study abroad experience where students are nominated/accepted by Stony Brook University, and enroll at a partner institution. In most cases SBU faculty or staff are NOT traveling with participants.
    Program Housing Statement: Stony Brook University is required to comply with the housing policies of the host country, partner institution and/or hotel/hostel. These policies may include requirements such as sex-based housing placement.

    Application Deadline Extended to November 1 Applicants are accepted on a rolling basis, and are encouraged to apply as early as possible.
    Candidates may be interviewed to determine their qualifications for participating and representing Stony Brook University abroad.

    *Students receive 4 credits.

    For students following the Stony Brook Curriculum(SBC) this programs fulfills GLO, SBS and EXP+.

    You will study unit  AIX290 - Australia Today at the Geelong Waterfront campus. This short program is designed to provide an insight into historical and contemporary elements of Australian society. Students will delve into the country's history, politics, culture, landscape, settlement and indigenous cultures.

    Additional Information

    Credits earned on this program do not calculate toward a student's GPA at Stony Brook University. Non-SBU students are advised to check their home university policy on grade and credit transfer.
