History and Mission

The RTC launched in the Fall of 2005, under the direction of the Division of Campus Residences. Today, it is under the direction of the Department of Residential Programs. In Spring 2016, a partnership was formed with the ASTC to help ensure consistency in both student tutoring experiences and the engagement RTC tutors in the College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA) tutor certification process. The main goals of the Residential Tutoring Centers are to:

  • Provide tutoring to undergraduate students in a location that is uniquely convenient, by being located right in residence hall spaces.
  • Assist students as they adjust to course structures and pedagogy at a comprehensive Research 1 AAU University.
  • Allow students to learn that asking for help is a part of the learning process.
  • Retain students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses and encourage diversity in these areas.
