LEAVE FOR CHILD CARE


 

 

State Employees

Employees are eligible for up to seven (7) months child care leave from the baby's birth date or date of placement for adoption or foster care. The seven (7) months includes the period of disability following the birth date. Vacation and/or holiday accruals may be used, if available and with prior departmental approval, during child care leave to remain in a paid status.

*If both parents are State employees and work within the same state agency, they may elect to share the seven (7) month leave. They are not entitled to exceed a combined total of seven (7) months leave, and the leave may not extend beyond seven (7) months from the date of delivery.

ELIGIBILITY:

Eligible at the time of hire.

NEXT STEPS:

Reach out to an HR Leave Administrator at hrs_timeatt@stonybrook.eduto discuss childcare leave, preferably (3) months prior to the expected delivery date. Complete the Leave Request Form, FMLA Certification Form and any other forms they indicate as appropriate for the type of leave being requested. After the birth, a letter on the medical provider's office letterhead confirming birth date of the child and type of delivery will also be required to be sent to an HR Leave Administrator at hrs_timeatt@stonybrook.edu.
