About the Venue

The Convocation will take place in the Stony Brook Arena (formerly Island Federal Credit Arena). The reception will be held in the Wang Center, which is a short walk away. There will also be a shuttle for those who need assistance getting from the ceremony to the reception.

Traveling By Car

From New York City, take the Long Island Expressway (LIE, I-495) eastbound from the Queens Midtown Tunnel in Manhattan or the Throgs Neck Bridge or Whitestone Bridge in Queens to exit 62, and follow Nicolls Road (Route 97) north for 9 miles. The main entrance to the University is on the left.

A Traffic Note:  If you are coming from the west, please note that traffic starts picking up around 2:00 pm. If you use Google Maps as your GPS,  be sure to put in the day and time to get a good estimate of the travel time.

Parking

Graduates and guests should pre-register their cars to reserve their spot. Lot 3, located behind the Stony Brook Union, is the designated lot for events taking place in the Arena. Those with a government-issued ADA placard can access Lot 7, a smaller lot that is closer to the Arena.

Traveling by Train

POTENTIAL LIRR STRIKE: The LIRR may go on strike 5/16, disrupting the ability for commuters to get to and from the Stony Brook campus. More details here.

Take the Long Island Rail Road's Port Jefferson line from Penn Station in Manhattan to Stony Brook. Trains to and from Penn generally require transfers at Jamaica or Huntington. Hicksville is also a transfer point on some lines.

The LIRR station is at the north end of the campus, a short walk from the Stony Brook Arena.
