Graduation & Convocation
Completing Degree Requirements
Students should apply for graduation through the Office of the Registrar. More information on guidelines and deadlines can be found on their website.
Biology majors, Biochemistry Majors and BIO minors can be cleared for graduation when all of their major or minor requirements have been completed. Departmental staff clears students after grades have been submitted for the semester and once all transfer courses have been applied.

Biology & BIochemistry Convocation
General Information
Stony Brook University will hold its Sixty-Fifth Annual Commencement at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 22, 2026 in LaValle Stadium at the University Sports Complex.
A separate Convocation Ceremony for Biology Majors and Minors and Biochemistry Majors is scheduled for Thursday May 21 at 12:00 PM in the Stony Brook Arena. Graduates will assemble for the Biology and Biochemistry Convocation at 11:00 AM in Pritchard Gym. Each candidate will be individually recognized at the Biology and Biochemistry Convocation.
Please note that the Convocation Ceremony for Biology Majors and Minors and Biochemistry Majors is a ticketed event and students registered on SOLAR will receive 3 tickets each. An alternate viewing location is available for additional guests without tickets in the Union Auditorium (location TBD). A Livestream will also be avaialble and more information can be found on the Commencement website here.
Students graduating in December 2025, January 2026, May 2026, August 2026, and December 2026 are eligible to attend the Spring 2026 Department Ceremony. Information regarding attendance registration, photo registration, robing instructions, and more can be found below!

In order to participate in the UG BIO/BCH Convocation Ceremony all students must complete the form below, in addition to the Commencement Office's form on SOLAR.
Please only complete the form once.
