Use this sample language for the certification letter required from the student intern’s home institution.
The letter must be:
- Printed on official university stationery
- Signed by the dean, academic adviser, or appropriate official
- Submitted as part of the J-1 Student Intern request

I further certify that the student internship program at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, also known as Stony Brook University, will fulfill the educational objectives for the student’s current degree program at our institution.
It is my understanding that after completing the student internship program at Stony Brook University, the student intends to return to our institution to complete their degree program.
