Types of Employment Based PR Sponsorship


EB-1: Extraordinary Ability (Self-Sponsored)

The employee may apply on their own if they can demonstrate that they are among the top experts in their field.

They must meet at least 3 of the criteria below, or show a major one-time achievement:

  • National or international awards
  • Membership in selective professional associations
  • Published material about your work
  • Experience reviewing the work of others
  • Important contributions to your field
  • Scholarly publications
  • Display of work (if applicable)
  • Leading role in respected organizations
  • High salary compared to others in your field
  • Commercial success (for performing arts)


EB-1: Outstanding Professor or Researcher (Employer-Sponsored)

An employee may qualify if they:

  • Have international recognition in your field
  • Have at least 3 years of teaching or research experience
  • Will work in a tenure-track or permanent research position

They must provide at least 2 of the following types of evidence:

  • Major awards
  • Membership in selective associations
  • Published material about your work
  • Experience judging the work of others
  • Original research contributions
  • Scholarly books or articles


Other Categories (EB-2 / EB-3 – PERM Process)

Some positions may qualify for permanent residence through the PERM labor certification process.

This process requires the University to test the U.S. labor market before proceeding.

VIS and immigration counsel will determine if this option is appropriate for your case.
