accessVIS
accessVIS is the online portal used by Visa and Immigration Services (VIS) at Stony Brook University.
You will use accessVIS to submit requests, upload documents, and receive immigration documents or messages from VIS. The system allows you to securely share information with VIS and track your requests in one place.
accessVIS helps VIS provide services efficiently while ensuring the University complies with U.S. immigration regulations.
Who Uses accessVIS
You may use accessVIS if you are:
- An international student in F-1 or J-1 status
- An international scholar or employee in a VIS-supported immigration category
- A Stony Brook department sponsoring or hosting an international scholar or employee
Each group will see different forms and services based on your role.
Access the accessVIS Portal
You can log in to accessVIS using your Stony Brook NetID and password.

Login with your 9-digit Stony Brook ID#, PIN, and date of birth here Limited Services Access.
Your Limited Access PIN is necessary to confirm your identity. If you have yet to receive it, or have forgotten it, you may request that the system e-mail it to you. E-mail me my Limited Access PIN
Once logged in, you will see the services available for your role and immigration status.
What You Can Do in accessVIS
Through accessVIS, you can complete many VIS processes online. Depending on your status, you may be able to:
Submit Immigration Requests
Use online forms (called e-forms) to request immigration benefits or updates.
Examples include:
- Travel signatures
- Program extensions
- Reduced course load requests
- CPT or OPT recommendations
- Address or personal information updates
- Scholar or employment requests submitted by departments
Upload Required Documents
You may be asked to upload documents such as:
- Passport identification page
- U.S. visa
- Form I-94
- Immigration approval notices
- Employment authorization documents
Uploading documents allows VIS to review your information and maintain accurate immigration records.
Receive Immigration Documents
VIS may share important documents with you through accessVIS, such as:
- Updated Forms I-20 or DS-2019
- Employment authorization letters
- Support letters for government agencies
You will receive an email when a document is available for download.
Track the Status of Your Requests
You can log in to accessVIS at any time to:
- Check whether your request has been submitted
- Review requests that are in progress or completed
- Respond if VIS asks for additional information
Your request will not be reviewed until you submit the form completely.
Receive Messages from VIS
VIS may send messages or reminders through accessVIS. These messages may include:
- Instructions about your request
- Missing document notifications
- Updates about your immigration record
You will also receive an email notification when VIS sends a message through the system.

VIS uses accessVIS to manage immigration services and maintain accurate records for international students and scholars.
The system allows VIS to:

Important Tips When Using accessVIS
To avoid delays, remember to:
- Complete all required fields in each form
- Upload clear copies of requested documents
- Click “Submit” after completing the form
- Monitor your email and accessVIS messages for updates
When uploading documents to accessVIS:

Files must be in PDF format.

Files larger than 100 MB must be compressed before uploading to avoid an error message.
VIS cannot begin reviewing your request until the form has been fully submitted.
