Currently, I am exploring the relationship between the U.S. government and Black women.  In understanding and analyzing this relationship, I wish to see how the criminalization of Black single mothers by the U.S. government and other extensions of the State (social workers, politicians, academics, sociologists, etc.) shaped their experiences and its ramifications on their mental health.  I will also examine how Black women have leveraged their positions in society, politicized it, and utilized it to advocate for liveable conditions in their neighborhoods and for their families.
