PhD Candidate

 Harris

Interests: US History, Technology, Telecommunications Policy,
and Digital Utopianism

My current research focuses on the early development of cable technology and associated telecommunications policy in the United States, with a focus on the national "cable freeze" from 1966 to 1972. My dissertation aims to explore, in particular, civil society's contributions to cable development through various interactions with corporations and the state, as well as through internal deliberations and conflicts between advocacy groups regarding how to best promote public interest through the deployment of this burgeoning technology.
