Interests: West African History, Religion, Empire, Sovereignty, Gender, Minority Rights and Power in Northern Nigeria. 

Dokaji's research focuses on the history of Islam and religious minorities in Nigeria. He is especially interested in the history of the Shi’a Muslims in Northern Nigeria, and their experiences of oppression in state and social institutions.

Dokaji is currently working as a research assistant for a study on the Covid-19 Pandemic and its socio-economic and behavioral impacts on households in West Africa.
