VOLUNTARY REDUCTION IN EFFORT OPTIONS

A Response to Requests: What Can You Do To Help?

Following President McInnis's August 12th budget message and the related Campus Conversations, which have detailed the enormous budget challenges we face, we have been heartened by the generous response that is characteristic of the Stony Brook community.

Participants said that the clear presentation helped them better understand our fiscal position and some asked how they could help. In response to those requests we have provided some ways in which those who choose to do so can participate in the effort to achieve financial sustainability while temporarily adjusting their work obligation.

The Voluntary Reduction in Work Schedule (VRWS) is a long-standing New York State program which can provide one way in which Management/Confidential, UUP, CSEA, and PEF affiliated employees can help, but we have included other Voluntary Reduction in Effort options as well. All reflect ways in which we can work together to help our University.

If the VRWS option is selected, preferred work schedule adjustments should be identified in the VRWS Application. VR credits used before the program concludes will ensure the contribution that you intend.

Please note that all options are strictly voluntary and participation is subject to departmental approval based upon operational need.
