Human Resource Services in collaboration with the University's Campus Card Office, has developed the following guidelines to assist with the handling of volunteers. Volunteers are those individuals that have no formal employment relationship with the campus. The volunteer, by the nature of this relationship is not paid. Traditionally, volunteers on the West Campus and HSC have had no formalized process in place to address issues such as defining the nature of the relationship between Stony Brook University and the individual; the location of the volunteer activity; and the volunteer's requirement to have and make available an assigned University Volunteer/Visitor ID Badge.

Starting July 1st, 2003 all departments and office utilizing volunteers should follow the process outlined in the attached "Volunteer (non-faculty) Guidelines". For information regarding University ID Badges, please contact the Campus Card Office at either (631) 632-2737 (West) or (631) 444-8151 (East).
