Employ Ability Right Now (EARN)
The Syliva Geoghegan Presidential E.A.R.N. Program was created to increase employment of people with disabilities at Stony Brook. This is a collaborative program with the New York State Office of Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID), the President's Office, the Office of Diversity & Affirmative Action, Disability Support Services, Human Resource Services and University Hospital Human Resource Services. VESID makes employment referrals on behalf of VESID participants to the University.
Questions concerning the program may be directed to Disability Support Services at (631) 632-6748.
This program is named in honor of and dedicated in memory of Ms. Sylvia Geoghegan, a person with a disability who brought her enthusiasm, skills and spirit of community to her work at Stony Brook University in several capacities.
Her life ended accidentally and tragically on November 7, 1999. Ms. Geoghegan was a beloved colleague to many at Stony Brook and a strong advocate locally and nationally for employing people with disabilities. Her creativity and joyful spirit found their expression through her work and her art. Her memory will live on forever in the many people whose lives she touched.
This program commemorates her advocacy and passion for full participation by people with disabilities, and the care and concern she displayed towards all people.
