LGBTQ* Services is a team of students and professional staff dedicated to creating and maintaining an affirming and inclusive campus environment for LGBTQ* students. We aim to achieve this through a variety of programming, policy and resource development, and individual consultation. If you’re passionate about LGBTQ* advocacy, community building, and learning the skills needed to do both effectively consider applying for a position here with us!

LGBTQ* Services Internships

12 hours per week, up to 3 Credits per semester, 2 semesters 

 

LGBTQ* Services is a service area within the Division of Student Affairs. It consists of a team of students and professional staff dedicated to creating and maintaining an affirming and inclusive campus environment for LGBTQ* students.

We are seeking undergraduate students who are passionate about supporting LGBTQ* communities at Stony Brook University through education, advocacy and community building. This internship will give you the opportunity to gain experience with:

Public Speaking

Social Media

Graphic Design

Communication

Leadership

Teamwork

Customer Service

Problem Solving

LGBTQ* Services generally operates within a two-team model; the Outreach Programming Team and the Center Programming Team. (While working in a virtual setting, we operate as a single team.)

Outreach Programming Team

Description: The LGBTQ* Services Outreach Programming Interns are a group of students who work closely with professional staff and who are dedicated to creating and maintaining an affirming and inclusive campus environment for LGBTQ* students. The LGBTQ* Outreach Programming Interns aim to achieve this through educational, social, and advocacy-based opportunities including the development of resources, programs, events, tabling, and outreach initiatives.

The LGBTQ* Outreach Programming Responsibilities:

  1. Plan small and large scale programming on campus to serve the Stony Brook LGBTQ* communities through traditions, collaborations, and original programming.
  2. Identify, understand, and educate about student safety, health, and wellness needs.
  3. Educate Stony Brook general audiences about topics relevant to LGBTQ* folks.
  4. Represent LGBTQ* Services at various campus programs and events.
  5. Provide customer service and engage with guests to build community and foster meaningful conversation and growth among guests. 
  6. Assist LGBTQ* students in getting connected with other campus resources. 

Center Programming Team

Description: The LGBTQ* Center Programming Interns are a group of students who work closely with professional staff and who are dedicated to creating and maintaining an affirming and inclusive environment within the LGBTQ* Center for LGBTQ* students. The LGBTQ* Center Programming Interns aim to achieve this through educational, social, and advocacy-based opportunities within the Center including the development of resources, programs, and events. 

The LGBTQ* Center Programming Responsibilities:

  1. Plan programming within the LGBTQ* Center to serve the Stony Brook LGBTQ* communities through traditions, collaborations, and original programming.

  4. Create a welcoming and affirming environment for guests of the LGBTQ* Center.
