2023

Jason J. Jones has received a fellowship for the Fall 2023 semester at the Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS) in Bochum, Germany

Sohee Shin has been awarded a summer fellowship to study immigrant integration research & policy at the Rockefeller Institute of Government (2023).

Sophia Boutilier has received the ASA 2023 Sociology of Development Section Graduate Award for her paper "What do you mean by that? Meanings of Solidarity for Canadian International Development Workers (2023).

Wyatt "Raf" Thompson has received a position at the  Medici School in Economic Sociology at the MIT Sloan School of Management in Summer 2023.

2022


Nicholas Wilson, has received a $20,000 Stony Brook Foundation Trustees Faculty Award to pursue research, scholarship and creative art.  Recipients are chosen with an emphasis on the quality of research and publications and scholarship, the institutional impact of achievements and potential for continued professional growth, and the clarity, quality and significance of long-term reseach, scholarship and creative activity and their probable impact upon SBU and the scholarly impact within the discipline.

Dana McIntyre received a Fulbright-Hayes Group Study Abroad Fellowship (2022).

Katie Gordon has received the Robert Dentler Award for Outstanding Student Achievement from the Sociological Practice and Public Sociology (SPPS) Section of the American Sociological Association (2022).

Katie Gordon led a team at th Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women that received a $25,000 competitive grant from the state of California to support women's economic recovery in the community to produce the Report on the Status of Women and Girls in Sonoma County in partnership with the Center for the Advancement of Women at Mount Saint Mary's University (2022).

Natalia Navas has been selected by the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education as a graduate fellow for the 2022 AAHHE Graduate Student Fellowship Program.

2021

Oyeronke Oyewumi has received the Distinguished Africanist Award of the African Studies Association of the United States.  Established in the 1980s, the award recognizes and honors "scholars who have contributed a lifetime record of outstanding scholarship in their respective field of African Studies and service to thr Africanist community."

Danielle Lucksted has been selected as a 2021 Edmonds Summer Fellow with Human Rights Educators USA to create a "train the trainers" module for their educators throughout the country.

Dana McIntyre received the 2021 International Graduate Research Fellowship Award from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.

Breanna Brock received an honorable mention for the Ford Pre-Doctoral Fellowship, 2021

2020


Jennifer Heerwig
, has received a Piper Foundation Research Grant for her work on democracy vouchers, "Comparing Small Donor Public Financing Systems: The Effects of Matching Funds and Democracy Vouchers on Donor Diversity.

Yongjun Zhang, with his co-author Jeremy E. Fiel, is the co-winner of the 2020 James Coleman Best Article Award in the ASA Sociology of Education Section for his article, "With All Deliberate Speed:  The Reversal of Court-Ordered School Desegregation, 1970-2013." AJS 124(6): 1685-1719

Crystal Fleming, has received a Stony Brook Mid-Career Diversity Award, recognizing a faculty member at the mid-career stage who has a strong record of research and service while also advancing Stony Brook's goals of a diverse and inclusive campus.

Michael Schwartz, Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus, has received the American Sociological Association's 2020 Award for Distinguished Contributions to Teaching.

Jessica Kim  has received an NSF Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grant to complete her doctoral dissertation entitled, "The Diffusion of Democratic Norms: Examining How Democracy INGO Strategies Contribute to Hybrid Regimes" (2020)

José Guevara Fino was awarded a Fulbright Award. Minciencias, Fulbright Columbia (2020).

Fatoumata Ceesay received a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship which carries three years of full funding to support her research (2020).

2019

Ivan Chase, Professor Emeritus, and his co-authors Raphael Duoady and Diana K. Padilla were featured in a 12/13/19 New York Times article " Even Hermit Crabs Have Wealth Inequality" which discusses their study, " A comparison of wealth inequality in humans and non-humans", being published in the journal Physica A in January 2020

Ivan Chase, Professor Emeritus, has received the best paper award in the 2019 Visualization in Data Science section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers conference for his paper entitled, "PeckVis: A Visual Analytics Tool to Analyze Dominance Hierarchies in Small Groups."  The authors are Darius Coelho, Ivan Chase, and Klaus Mueller.

Carrie Shandra has been elected Chair of the Disability and Society Section of the American Sociological Association for 2019-2020.

Catherine Marrone has received the 2019 College of Arts & Sciences Godfrey Excellence in Teaching Award.

Michael Lenmark received funding from the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) to present his paper, "Immigration, Xenophobia, and the Redistribution of Wealth: A Study of Public Opinion" at the annual conference in Toronto (2019).
