Lifetime Career Development Broad Based Fee

The Career Center is funded by a combination of student fees and state support. We are deeply appreciative of the investment our students make in their career success.

The fee supports staffing and operations of the Stony Brook University’s Career Center, the centralized and comprehensive career service for all undergraduate and graduate students from all class years, all degree levels, all majors, and all career intentions.

Services are organized through our Career Communities framework, an innovative framework of seven industry-aligned communities plus an “Exploring” Community. Career coaching and programs are curated within each Community. Our job/internship portal, Handshake, offers thousands of opportunities in every industry sector. Students participate in the many virtual job and internship fairs that are offered throughout the academic year, providing opportunities to access employers from a range of locations around the world.

The Career Center also offers active-learning F2F & virtual career development workshops, career courses for credit (CAR 151, CAR 251, CAR 351, CAR 451, CAR 551), corporate informational sessions and site visits, recruitment events, job/intern fairs, alumni panels, externships, internships (EXT 288, EXT 488, EXT 588) and cohort-based leadership programs like the Diversity Professional Leadership Network and the First-Gen Future Ready program. The Career Center coordinates the Peace Corps Prep program for all students interested in international service.

Students sign up through Handshake to meet with career coaches for individual and group support for career exploration, preparation, and skill-building for resume, cover letter, interview preparation, mock interviews, and salary negotiation, as well as alumni networking.

Priorities for 2022-2023 include: adding two new career coaching positions to support our most active career communities, expanding on campus student employment, increasing alumni-student connections, launching our new Center for Service Learning & Community Service, the Center for Diversity Recruitment.
