Why Study Accounting?

The AACSB-accredited College of Business offers the Accounting minor as part of Stony Brook’s group of CPA-licensure eligible accounting programs, along with the MBA and MS in Accounting graduate programs. The minor provides a strong foundation for students who intend to enroll in a graduate accounting program in order to prepare themselves for the Uniform Certified Public Accountancy exam and a career in public accounting.

ADMISSION INFO:

Successful applicants will display evidence of achievement in mathematics and writing and will have performed particularly well on both the Math and Critical Reading sections of the SAT and/or ACT. A minimum GPA of 3.2 is typically required.

After Graduation

Your college decision isn't really about the next four years. We get it. It’s about what doors are opened by your degree and whether those opportunities are what you had envisioned for yourself. Nearly 95% of SBU grads are employed or go to professional or graduate school. Here's a snapshot of what life after graduation looks like for some of them. Many of our students go onto graduate school, including staying an extra year to complete a College of Business MBA or MS program.
