At Stony Brook University, responsible environmental stewardship is in our DNA. In fact, one of the founding trustees of the Environmental Defense Fund in 1967 was Stony Brook professor of biology and marine sciences Charles Wurster. His legacy flourishes today on campus through our commitment to environmentally sound practices.

Stony Brook is at the vanguard of the sustainability movement. Our commitment to a green future is evident everywhere on our 1,400 acres: from reducing our carbon footprint, to advocating recycling and using recycled materials whenever possible, to promoting alternatively fueled transportation.

This Web site highlights many of our successful environmental initiatives and provides important information about our ongoing programs.
