All new first year students at Stony Brook University will participate in a multi-part orientation. New Seawolf Orientation is required for all new first year students and consists of Seawolf Foundations Online Orientation modules, participation in the advising and registration process with Undergraduate Academic Advising or your respective honors program, a small group workshops including Seawolf Connections, a Living on Campus or Commuting to Campus Seawolf Information Session, and New Seawolf Welcome.
Focus on getting to know Stony Brook, including modules on academic readiness, financial responsibility, campus life, and introducing you to Undergraduate Academic Advising.

Connect you with your Peer Assistant Leader (PAL) and your new peers throughout the summer. You'll have an opportunity to ask important questions and learn more about your transition into Stony Brook University. You can sign up for a Seawolf Connection in your StartSBU Portal.
First-Year : Your Academic Advisor (UGC, Honors, Scholars, WISE, EOP,
Athletics, Engineering) will develop students first semester course schedule based on information provided on the Advising Planning Form and supplemental information requested by your Academic Advisor. Students will receive more information via email from their Academic Advisor.
Gets you acclimated to the University climate, culture, and community. New Seawolf Welcome takes place the week before the the first day of classes. Students who do not attend New Seawolf Welcome will automatically be enrolled in the Required Orientation Makeup Experience (ROME) course in the first few weeks of the semester.
Upon entering Stony Brook University, new students will be required to take different placement assessments to ensure they are placed in the proper course in Stony Brook University's curriculum sequence for different disciplines. Students may have to take up to 4 different placement assessments which are described below.
