PARKING PERMIT QUESTIONS

Faculty/Staff parking permits expire on June 30th. A reminder email will be sent in June notifying Faculty/Staff that they can renew their permit online. 

Yes. Please fill out the Residential Zone Parking Permit Change Request Form and allow several business days for a response. If approved, the Parking Services office will contact you regarding your new permit. 

No. Please only register your own vehicle. 

Resident Freshman and Sophomore students are not eligible to register their motor vehicles for resident lots. If you feel you have exceptional circumstances, you may file a petition. Student Parking Info

You may register for a parking permit as soon as University records show your status as a Transfer student. Please note that it may take time before your transfer credits show up in our parking system. If you are unable to apply for a parking permit in the meantime, please contact the Academic and Transfer Advising Office to obtain written proof showing the number of transfer credits coming in and bring this with you to Parking Services.

The permits available to you will be displayed when you apply for a permit. Please note, graduate students are not eligible for discounted permits as they are only available for PELL grant and TAP eligible students.

Visitors must generally park in metered lots or parking garages at the daily rate.  Visitor passes can be obtained for the Hospital Parking Garage. Please visit the visitor page for more information. 

Parking permits are non-transferable and can only be used by the permit holder.

No. All tickets must be paid in full before permits will be issued. 

Disabled Parking Permits are available for approved applicants through town, county and state agencies. Temporary Disabled Parking Permits are available through the Student Accessibility Support Center

These permits are for the sole use of the individual named on the permit, or for transporting the named individual, and may only be used at the parking location at which the named individual is working or visiting.

No. Resale or unauthorized use of your parking permit is prohibited. Possession of a lost or stolen permit may result in criminal prosecution.

You must register your motorcycle for a parking permit before parking on campus, but you will not be issued a physical permit. 

 


 

PARKING ENFORCEMENT QUESTIONS

Yes. Parking tickets may be paid online through the parking portal or in person at the Parking Services Office on the second floor of the Student Union, Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4pm. You may also mail payments to:

Checks should be made out to "Stony Brook University Acct. No. 900819." Please include the ticket number(s) on the check.

Appeals must be submitted within 14 calendar days following the date of issuance. Parking tickets can be appealed using the parking portal. Decisions are generally made within 2-4 weeks.

You may appeal the first level decision to the Traffic Appeals Board (TAB).  Appeals submitted for the consideration by the TAB must be filed within 14 days of the date on which the first level appeal decision was rendered. Appeals received after this date will not be accepted. Second level appeals are submitted using the parking portal. You will be informed of the decision using the email on your parking portal profile.  All decisions made by the TAB are final.
