Graduate Student Advocate
The Graduate Student Advocate (GSA) for the 2025-2026 academic year is Donal Thomas. The Graduate Student Advocate can assist graduate students in finding solutions to challenges and works closely with other units such as the Graduate Dean, the Ombudsman and Graduate Student Organization.
About Donal Thomas
Donal Thomas is a PhD Candidate in the Department of History at SBU. Thematically
his research interests span across environment, global indigenous histories, knowledge
transfer, medicine, imperialism, borderlands, science, and transnational history.
He is one of the founders of Crisis and Catharsis, a digital humanities initiative.
Donal currently serves as the Chair for the American Society of Environmental History Early Career Caucus (ASEH ECC). In the past, he was actively involved in the Graduate Student Organization (GSO) and History Graduate Student Association (HGSA) at SBU.
As the Graduate Student Advocate, Donal looks forward to connecting with graduate students and supporting and navigating them through various resources that can help to advance in both professional and academic life.
