Visa Appointment Update

Dear Students & Scholars,
Like many of you, Stony Brook University has been closely monitoring the temporary “visa pause,” and we’re pleased to share some encouraging news.
According to the latest updates from the U.S. Department of State, the pause appears to have been lifted, and several U.S. Embassies and Consulates will begin reopening student visa interview appointments soon.
If you still need to apply for or renew your F-1 or J-1 visa, we strongly encourage you to monitor the website of the U.S. Embassy or Consulate where you plan to apply. Appointment availability varies by location and can change quickly—checking regularly will give you the best chance of securing a slot.
Please note, under the new vetting process all applicants for F and J nonimmigrant visas will be instructed to adjust the privacy settings on all of their social media profiles to “public.”
