Stay in a separate room from other household members, if possible.
Use a separate bathroom, if possible.
At home, take steps to improve ventilation, if possible. Make every attempt to o
pen windows and promote fresh air.
Do not share personal household items, like cups, towels, and utensils.
The person with COVID-19 and everyone they live with should wear a well-fitting mask inside the home.
Limit the number of people who are in
close contact with the infected person. If possible, identify
one person to care for the person with COVID-19. Avoid contact with other members of the household,
if possible.

Please do not report to work or attend classes on campus. If you have not done so already, please follow up with your private physician for
a COVID test or you may perform your own
home antigen test. You may also obtain COVID testing by making an appointment through New York State’s
“
COVID-19” website, where you’ll find test sites across the State, including
Stony Brook’s Research and Development Park. Key Points for using a self-test:
Use an FDA-approved test.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions for swabbing.
If your result is negative, repeating the self-test within a few days, with at least
24 hours between tests, will increase the confidence that you are not infected with
the virus causing COVID-19.
If you continue to be symptomatic, and you have a negative test, you’ll need a molecular
PCR test to be 100% sure.
Please note that a negative self-test result means that the test did not detect the
virus, but it does not rule out a COVID-19 infection. A single negative self-test
result may not be reliable, especially if you have symptoms associated with COVID-19.
If your PCR test is negative, please remain at home until you feel well and are able
to return to work. Follow up with a repeat COVID test in 2-3 days. Do NOT use the campus COVID surveillance test centers when you are not well.

You may return to work once you’ve completed the New York State Department of Health’s
recommended five days of isolation under the following conditions. You must be fever-free
– without fever-reducing medication such a
s Advil and Tylenol – for at least 24 hours. By fever, we mean over 100 °F. Your symptoms
must have also generally improved.
If you do not meet these criteria – and if you are still recovering from COVID and
cannot return to work on the sixth day following completion of a five-day isolation period
– please remain at home. You can revisit the return-to-work clearance form as you
begin to feel better.
If your symptoms are worsening, you are in need of medical care, or it has been more than 10 days since the beginning of your isolation time, you will
need to contact your primary health care provider (PCP) for medical clearance.
Please note that when you are cleared to return to the workplace, you will be required
to follow all COVID protocols. That includes wearing a
well-fitting mask consistently and correctly while at work, covering both your nose and mouth, and
social distancing, whenever possible.
If you have shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, chest pain or any other urgent
symptoms needing emergency care, contact 911 for emergency transport.
