Non-Matriculated Graduate Student Status

If you have a bachelor's degree and are interested in taking undergraduate or graduate courses at Stony Brook, without working toward a degree or certificate, you may apply for admission as a Non-matriculated Graduate Student.

SPD's Non-MatriculatED Cohort Students

Prospective students who are applying to take courses in one of the School of Professional Development's off-campus cohorts apply through the School of Professional Development, not the Graduate School.

Cohort courses may include:

  • Courses that meet at a Teachers Center
  • Courses that are offered as part of an articulation agreement with another University

Cohort courses do not include Foreign Language K-6 Certification Extension courses that are offered in an off-campus site. Those students should apply through the Office of Graduate and Health Sciences Admissions

To apply as a non-matriculated cohort student through SPD, all applicants must upload a copy of the transcript reflecting conferral of a bachelor's degree, with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5.  (Note: Applicants applying as a part of the EdD articulation agreement must upload a copy of their transcript reflecting conferral of a master's degree.)

There is a nonrefundable $25 application fee.
