Installation of Professor Patricia Wright, Herrnstein Family Endowed Chair in Conservation Biology
To all Faculty, Staff, and Students,
It is my pleasure to invite you to attend the installation ceremony for Patricia Wright as the Herrnstein Family Endowed Chair in Conservation Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Anthropologist Patricia Wright, PhD has made major contributions in her research of the biology, ecology, conservation, and behavior of living primates. Her broad interests include biodiversity assessments, conservation biology, population ecology, and genetic and primate microbiomes and parasites.
Professor Wright founded and continues to direct the renowned research station Centre ValBio (CVB) overlooking the Madagascar rainforest. For the past 20 years, she has trained and guided both Malagasy and Stony Brook students and collaborated with myriad tropical biologists. Her mission to integrate environmental sustainability with the health and economic well-being of the Malagasy has set a world standard for conservation efforts.
She has earned three medals of honor from the Madagascar government, is a MacArthur Genius Fellow, is an elected member of the AAAS and the American Philosophical Society. Professor Wright is the first woman to win the Indianapolis Prize for Animal Conservation.
This ceremony is a wonderful opportunity for the campus to recognize Professor Wright’s academic and research excellence and pay tribute to the extraordinary generosity of the Herrnstein Family.
