Taylor Long is a New York-based percussionist, sound artist, and educator interested in experimental, technological, avant-garde and theatrical mediums. He has appeared at the Darmstadt Summer Course for New Music (Germany), New Music for Strings Festival (Denmark), Oh My Ears New Music Festival (Phoenix), NYC Electroacoustic Music Festival, and Avaloch Farm Music Institute (New Hampshire). He has performed with ensembles and collectives including Yarn/Wire, Speak Percussion, FearNoMusic, Sound of Late, Delgani String Quartet, Burn After Listening, Stony Brook Contemporary Chamber Players, Black House Collective, and Cascadia Composers. He works frequently with both established and emerging composers such as Liza Lim, Katherine Young, Xu Yi, Margaret Schedel, Eliza Brown, Yiran Zhao, Kimia Koochakzadeh-Yazdi, and Adam Zuckerman.
Taylor is a member of Ensemble Decipher, a NY-based technologically oriented composer/performer collective, with recent performances at Earth Day Art Model, EarFest 2021, NowNet Arts Conference, an ensemble-residency at New Music for Strings 2021, and a tour of New York State for workshops and performances of new works by students and faculty from various SUNY institutions.
Recent activities include the premiere of Katherine Young’s Biomes 4.0 at Pioneer Works with Yarn/Wire, various performances with custom 3D-printed embedded irons for the Women’s Labor Project (conceived by Margaret Schedel and Jocelyn Ho), and an activation of Rob Cosgrove’s Broadcast Presence , a three-hour long installation co-conceived with Cosgrove as part of a residency at Practice Gallery (Philadelphia).
Taylor is a DMA candidate at Stony Brook University in the studio of Eduardo Leandro. He holds a BM from Portland State University and an MM from the University of Kansas.
