Alumni Policy

Effective June 2026, this policy outlines the eligibility and procedures for alumni seeking Pre-Health advising services through the Upper-Class and Transfer Advising (UPTR) office at Stony Brook University.

Eligibility for Alumni Advising

Individualized 1:1 advising services are reserved for alumni who have reached a minimum of one year post undergraduate graduation from Stony Brook University.

  • During the first year following graduation, students are eligible for advanced Pre-Health  advising support to discuss application timelines for the health profession schools.
  • Alumni who graduated more than one year ago remain eligible to meet with the Career Center to discuss experiential opportunities.

Alumni who meet the one-year eligibility requirement must follow a specific protocol to schedule an appointment, as they no longer have access to the Navigate scheduling system used by current students.

Email Communication: Alumni should reach out via prehealth@stonybrook.edu to set up an appointment with a Pre-Health Advisor (add specific days of availability).

  • Step 1: Create a Dossier or Dossier Deliver account on Interfolio.
  • Step 2: If you already have letters on file with Stony Brook, you must complete this Google Form and email prehealth@stonybook.edu. There are a few steps in this process which will be emailed to you after you successfully submit your request via the Google Form. Once you have completed the required steps, our office will upload these letters to your Dossier / Dossier Deliver account per your instructions.
  • Step 3: If your recommender is going to submit a letter after December 31, 2023, you must provide them with Dossier / Dossier Deliver instructions.  Our office will no longer be involved in saving or sending LOR on your behalf.

Stony Brook does not have a Post-Baccalaureate program. To assist in your search for a suitable program, we suggest using the AAMC’s Post Baccalaureate Premedical Programs database.
