Biography
Owen Rambow is an expert in artificial intelligence (AI), natural language processing and computational linguistics. His research interests include theoretical issues and more applied questions. His current research focuses on two areas. First, while AI has made massive progress in the last few years, even the most advanced large language models (LLMs) do not behave the way humans do. Working with colleagues from Computer Science and Psychology, Rambow is working on identifying in exactly what ways humans and LLMs communicate differently, and how LLM communication can be changed to be more human-like and more effective, Second, Rambow has done extensive work on natural language processing for Arabic, including developing annotated corpora and morphological taggers for Arabic and its dialects. He is interested in determining how advanced AI can be made available in low-resource languages and dialects, using Arabic and its dialects as an example.
