Nominate a Stony Brook Graduate for the 40 Under Forty Alumni Recognition Program

March 11, 2021

Just 64 years ago, Stony Brook was a new university. We had an inaugural graduating class of only 25 students, and our courses were being taught in borrowed buildings on Oyster Bay. From these beginnings, however, came a top research university—an institution that is a leader in invention, creativity, and healthcare in its country, and a school with thousands of alumni who have made profound contributions to their fields and changed the fabric of their world. The success of our alumni shows how far Stony Brook University has come and, most importantly, how far we will go. So it is my pleasure to announce that we are now opening nominations for the 40 Under Forty alumni recognition program.

Although Stony Brook has become one of the world’s top research universities, it has maintained much of its original spirit—that of a young university with the grit, tenacity, and ambition to make a difference. That’s what makes the Stony Brook University 40 Under Forty awards so exciting; we get to see the impact our alumni have made in real-time. Their achievements in their professions and communities are a powerful testament to the limitless possibilities that a degree from Stony Brook unlocks. So thank you for helping us celebrate our most noteworthy, innovative, service-oriented and entrepreneurially-spirited graduates.

I encourage you to visit our 40 Under Forty website, closely read the criteria, and nominate a graduate who you think deserves recognition.

Nominations will be accepted until end of business (EST) Friday, April 30, 2021. The honorees for the 40 Under Forty alumni recognition program will be selected this fall, and you can contact Alumni Relations at (631) 632-6330 or for additional information.

As we persevere through this difficult time, I believe these 40 Under Forty awards can send a profound message about hope, change, and our collective future. I look forward to hearing about our nominees.
