BS Human Evolutionary Biology
Minor in Anthropology
Why Stony Brook?
Stony Brook grew on me as I began to recognize how well it aligned with my goals. I knew I wanted to pursue medicine, and the university’s strong STEM programs and association with a major hospital stood out to me. The campus diversity and collaborative environment also made it feel like a place where I could thrive academically and personally. Combined with its affordability, Stony Brook became the right place for me to build my future path.
On his major:
I am a Human Evolutionary Biology major with a minor in Anthropology. I chose this major and minor because it offered a broader understanding of what makes us human by combining biological science with evolutionary, cultural, and social perspectives, giving me a more comprehensive understanding of what it means to be human. Through my courses, I’ve been able to explore topics such as human variation, adaptation, and the ways our environment and behaviors have shaped our evolutionary outcomes until the present day.
What degree are you graduating with?
I am graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Human Evolutionary Biology, with a minor
in Anthropology.
Interests and accomplishments:
Throughout my time at Stony Brook, I have served as head undergraduate teaching assistant for introductory biology labs, mentoring fellow UGTAs and supporting student learning throughout several semesters of lab. I have also been an active member in the Taiwanese Students’ Association (TSA) throughout my four years at Stony Brook, helping organize cultural events for hundreds within the campus community while also building lasting memories with close friends. Outside of campus, I am a certified EMT, responding to emergency calls in my community and gaining hands-on clinical experience. I also volunteer with the Child Life Pediatrics program at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, where I support and spend time with pediatric patients and their families during hospital visits.
Plans for post-graduation:
After graduation, I plan to continue gaining clinical and research experience with the goal of matriculating into medical school.
Advice for potential Seawolves?
Take advantage of every opportunity early on, whether it’s clubs, volunteering, research,
or teaching. Stony Brook offers a wide range of experiences, and the more you involve
yourself, the more you will grow academically, socially, and personally.
