Imtiar Jalal Niloy

Career Path and Current Role

Since graduating from the Department of Civil Engineering at Stony Brook University, Imtiar has established himself in the structural engineering industry. Currently serving as a Project Manager, his work focuses on complex structural projects, including distribution centers, warehouses, and manufacturing facilities.

His role is a blend of leadership and deep technical execution. Key responsibilities include:

  • Project Leadership: Managing coordination, schedules, and client communication.
  • Technical Design: Performing structural analysis, design, and modeling for steel and concrete systems using BIM tools and industry-standard software.
  • Engineering Oversight: Developing structural models, performing load analysis, designing gravity and lateral force-resisting systems, and coordinating foundation design.
  • Collaboration: Preparing construction documents and working closely with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines throughout the design and construction process.
"Working on large-scale industrial and commercial projects has allowed me to strengthen both my technical expertise and leadership skills while applying the knowledge I gained at SBU to real-world engineering challenges."

The SBU Impact

Imtiar credits his time at SBU CIV for building a strong foundation in structural analysis and fostering advanced problem-solving abilities.

  • Programming & Automation: His PhD research provided valuable experience in coding, automation, and computational analysis.
  • Workflow Efficiency: He regularly applies his ability to develop scripts to streamline structural analysis and modeling tasks in his current professional role.
  • Critical Thinking: Beyond technical skills, SBU taught him to approach complex challenges analytically and think critically about engineering solutions.
  • Communication: The collaborative research environment at Stony Brook helped strengthen his technical communication and leadership skills through close interaction with faculty and peers.

Professional Achievements

Imtiar is particularly proud of his successful transition from the world of academic research into leading real-world, large-scale engineering projects. He has mastered the balance of technical problem-solving and decision-making within fast-paced project settings.

Furthermore, he has successfully integrated automation and programming--skills honed during his PhD--into everyday engineering tasks to create more impactful and efficient workflows.
