Assessment Steps

Assessment is the process of using data to evaluate student learning outcomes and inform continuous program improvements. Use of assessment data guides decision-making and demonstrates our commitment to rigorous educational standards. Engaging in the assessment process should take place as a team with input from all critical stakeholders.

The Office of Educational Effectiveness has outlined five key steps to help units create an assessment plan: 

Step 1: Articulating Program Goals & Learning Objectives
Step 2: Curriculum Mapping and Selecting Assessment Methods & Metrics
Step 3: Setting Benchmarks & Timelines
Step 4: Data Collection, Analysis, and Reporting
Step 5: Closing the Loop - Taking Action to Make Improvements
