Assessment Roles, Committees & Councils

 

Office of Educational Effectiveness

Administrative office in the Provostial area with seven highly motivated and enthusiastic experts who enable and support the implementation of high-quality processes to measure both student learning and administrative outcomes to sustain and advance excellence.

Assessment Coordinators

A faculty member, program director, or administrator identified to coordinate assessment activities at the program level. Serves as the primary liaison between the program and the Office of Educational Effectiveness.

SBU Assessment Council

A council of faculty members charged by the Provost in consultation with the University Senate to develop campus-wide policies and procedures for academic assessment, including general education, and to provide ongoing oversight of assessment of student learning.

Student Assessment Council

A council and internship program housed within the Office of Educational Effectiveness (OEE) at Stony Brook University, working to bridge the gap between student voices and institutional improvement.

Accreditation Advisory Group

A group of faculty and staff from SBU Schools and Colleges with programmatic or specialized accreditation intended to foster a collaborative environment where peers can share insights, exchange ideas, and contribute to the collective enhancement of accreditation support.

General Education Advisory Committee

An advisory committee of 12 faculty and 4 administrators, jointly constituted by the University Senate and the Provost, charged with providing ongoing advice about the implementation, evaluation, and assessment of Stony Brook University’s general education curriculum.

Ad Hoc Committee to Establish a Program Review Process (2022)

An ad hoc committee of 6 department chairs charged with recommending a process for a periodic review of Stony Brook University’s academic programs, including a focus on assessment of student learning outcomes and an external review component, consistent with SUNY Policy. Charge completed in Fall 2022.

Middle States Working Group 5: Educational Effectiveness Assessment (2022-2024)
Working group of faculty and staff charged with demonstrating how SBU meets MSCHE accreditation requirements to show that students have accomplished educational goals determined by the faculty and that assessment results are used for improvement. Working group activities were conducted between 2022 and 2024.
