Student Assessment Council

Engaging students in the assessment process to help improve academic programs and provide meaningful feedback across departments.

Charge

The Student Assessment Council (SAC) is a council and internship program housed within the Office of Educational Effectiveness (OEE) at Stony Brook University, working to bridge the gap between student voices and institutional improvement.

Objectives

  • The Purpose: We want to engage more students in the assessment process, in addition to helping students provide meaningful feedback to their departments and programs. The planning process involves selecting diverse members — including educators, students, and administrators to provide varied perspectives. Regular meetings are scheduled to discuss current assessment challenges and propose innovative solutions.
  • The Planning: The Student Assessment Council plans by setting clear objectives, such as improving evaluation practices and ensuring equity. It brings together educators, students, and administrators to share perspectives and address challenges collaboratively.

  • The Execution: The council schedules meetings, assigns tasks, and develops a timeline to implement solutions while maintaining transparency and gathering stakeholder feedback for continuous improvement.
