SASC Testing - Frequently Asked Questions 2021 for Faculty
These FAQs are designed to help you understand and provide test accommodations to
students enrolled in your courses. If you have additional questions, please contact
SASC testing staff at

112. Please contact us by phone at 631-632-6748.
Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 AM - 9:30 PM, and on Fridays from 8:30 AM - 4:30
PM. Hours may vary during holidays, final exams, and intersessions.
It is preferred that exam materials be emailed to email@example.com. Exams should be in electronic format (Word Documents preferred), for compatibility
with assistive technology. A physical exam may also be dropped off at the SASC Testing
Please note: This email address cannot access shared google drive files, and SASC
is unable to print exams in color.
Please note: Staff does not maintain 24/7 access to email. Exams received outside of business
hours (8:30-5 PM) will be processed the following business day.
Do not email exams to individual SASC staff.
Please include the following information with your exam (SASC has standard SBU opscans
and bluebooks for administering exams).
Length of time given for the exam in class
A listing of any permitted items (calculator/note card/books etc.)
Special instructions for the proctor

SASC asks for exams to be delivered at least two business days before the scheduled exam appointment. For exams that require conversion into an alternate format (Kurzweil/Braille), additional
time may be required. SASC staff will contact instructors regarding exams that need
to be converted to ensure adequate time for converting the exam into the appropriate
Exam security is a top priority for SASC staff. Each exam is placed in an envelope
with a unique barcode. Exams are logged into our database, and logged out when instructors
pick them up. Only SASC professional staff have access to the
firstname.lastname@example.org email and to the exams. Exams are kept in a secure location. In addition, all staff
sign confidentiality clauses to protect the identities of our students and the course
materials of SBU professors.
Yes, students may remain in the SASC Testing Center during our hours of operation.
If students are required to stay until a certain time, please let us know and we will
note this on the exam so that our proctors can enforce this.
If a student has “no scantrons” as part of their accommodations, no opscan will be
Yes, you and/ your TAs may check on students during the exam. All exams must be picked
up and signed out from the SASC Testing Center.
Professors are encouraged to provide accommodations if they are able to. Students
opt to take exams without accommodations.
SASC specialists are able to make conversions for these accommodations. In order to
ensure that they have enough time to do so, please email a digital copy (
Word documents preferred) of the exam at least two business days before the scheduled appointment. Should
additional time be required, SASC staff will email you 1 week before the exam appointment.
SASC is able to proctor exams with listening sections and images. We request that
these exams be delivered to SASC two days in advance of the scheduled appointment.
Generally, we request that audio files be provided in MP3 or WAV format, and images
are provided in PowerPoint, or .pdf.
Students taking audio/visual exams will be provided with a non-networked computer.
SASC staff cannot control playback, but will provide any instructions provided.
SASC utilizes a computerized program for exam scheduling. The program sends automatic
email reminders, which are often sent after the delivery of the exam - 7 days, 5 days,
and 2 days before scheduled exams.
Exams may be picked up in SASC Testing Center, located inthe Student Union Room 112.
Exams may be picked up by a faculty member, Teaching Assistant, or department staff.
Upon request, exams may be returned via email. SASC does not interoffice or mail
exams to faculty.
No, SASC is only able to proctor students with approved accommodations. If you need
assistance proctoring a makeup exam, you can contact the university testing center
located in Frey Hall 109.
Students will be seated for their exam if they arrive up to 30 minutes late. The end time of the exam will not be changed. Students arriving
more than 30 minutes late will not be permitted to sit for the exam, and they will be instructed
by SASC staff to speak to their instructor.
Unless approved by faculty, or an approved accommodation (example - glucose monitoring
software), students testing in SASC are required to secure all laptops, tablets, phones,
and smart wearables prior to starting their exam. Professors will be notified if there
is a specific accommodation that requires a device to be available during exams.
If a student requests an exam at a different time, SASC will not administer the exam
without instructor permission. If you are giving permission, please email
email@example.com, so we are aware.
SASC will offer both in person and remote proctoring for Fall 2021. We are able to
administer online exams. If the exam requires a specific program, please contact
SASC staff to make arrangements.
