Crafting A Shared Vision for Stony Brook University
Our Key Pillars Begin With ABC
What should we aspire to? How can we achieve these aspirations together? The very foundation of education begins with these letters and makes it easy to remember the key pillars of our strategic vision for the next decade, including:
|
‘A’ stands for accelerate |
‘B’ stands for build |
‘C’ stands for catalyze |
These three pillars, ABC, A – accelerate, B – build, C – catalyze are the foundation of our blueprint for not simply driving impact and innovation,
but super-charging it, accelerating enduring excellence now and long into the future.

Town Hall Focuses on Crafting a Cross-Campus Vision
President Andrea Goldsmith led a cross-campus town hall discussion on October 21, 2025, followed by a virtual town hall on November 17, 2025. The events drew nearly 300 participants who contributed their ideas to the design of a shared vision for Stony Brook’s future.
“Shaping Stony Brook’s future together is an exciting undertaking since we are a university
of infinite possibilities,” said Goldsmith. "As we think about the future of Stony
Brook and what we want to accomplish over the next decade and beyond, I want us to
think big.”
Stony Brook 2035: Shaping Our Shared Vision Together

Today Stony Brook is the number one public university in the great state of New York. Over the next decade, we aspire to be one of the best public universities in the country. When we think about 2035, how else will we push the boundaries of excellence and amplify our impact across all dimensions of education, research, clinical care and service to our community? I invite you not only to imagine Stony Brook’s future, but to build it together with me.
Throughout this academic year, the university and broader community will work to craft our shared vision for Stony Brook’s future, one that is compelling, bold and aspirational. Thinking big, we will envision our greater presence and greatest possibilities, stretching from the heart of New York City to the eastern tip of Long Island. Together we will accelerate our excellence and impact from Manhattan to Montauk, clearly defining the steps to achieve our highest ambitions. And, a decade from now, we will look back with great pride on how we’ve transformed this exceptional university together.
I look forward to hearing your ideas and to your partnership in shaping our shared vision for Stony Brook 2035.
Sincerely,
Andrea Goldsmith, President
