Recognizing Our Remarkable Year Together

May 10, 2023

To the Campus Community,

Can you believe it’s the end of the year? At every turn, exciting things have happened for Stony Brook University. We enjoyed our first year as a SUNY flagship. We were chosen — from a pool of incredibly competitive institutions — to build the New York Climate Exchange on Governors Island. We were named the number one public university in New York. As final exams are underway, projects are turned in, and spring is in the air, I feel lucky to be at Stony Brook University.

And I hope that you do, too. Because it is due to your passion, commitment, and your willingness to challenge the status quo that we have seen such a great year and semester. Stony Brook’s ethos was forged in the energy of the 1960s — a time of activism, advancement, and change. Right now, it feels like we’re on the precipice of yet another momentous period. And Stony Brook is yet again at the forefront of it. I cannot think of a better time to be a Seawolf.

Whether your summer offers a restful break, exciting study and travel, or simply a time to reconnect with friends and family, please know that Stony Brook is grateful for your hard work this semester. And to culminate this auspicious year, I hope to see you at our Commencement ceremony on May 19. Faculty can register to be a part of the procession or email the Office of Conferences and Special Events. Whether you attend as a graduate yourself, as faculty, staff or a student, it will be a meaningful ritual to close out this formative time and usher in the inspiring things to come.

Have a wonderful summer!

Sincerely,
