Q/F/T* SBU 2014-15: A Year of Queer/Feminist/Trans* Study

Q/F/T* SBU is an initiative of the Humanities Institute designed to create interdisciplinary conversations about gender and sexuality in transnational contexts. Rather than thinking about queer/feminist/trans* as specific categories, we are more interested in queer/feminist/trans* as method(s) for enacting new subjects, analyses, aesthetics, politics, and worlds. We are especially interested in programming that will draw diverse audiences and create opportunities for exchanges across differences.

The series of events will kick off with Heather Love giving the inaugural Q/F/T* lecture on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 4:30 in Humanities 1006. Professor Love is R. Jean Brownlee Term Associate Professor and Associate Chair of English at the University of Pennsylvania, and she is the author of Feeling Backward: Loss and the Politics of Queer History (Harvard, 2007), the editor of a special issue of GLQ on the scholarship and legacy of Gayle Rubin ("Rethinking Sex"), and the co-editor of a special issue of New Literary History ("Is There Life after Identity Politics?"). Her lecture will explore "Queer Method and the Postwar History of Sexuality Studies."

Future events will include a Q/F/T* Health and Race symposium, a workshop on Gender and Religion, and Q/F/T* reading/study group.

We welcome ideas from faculty, students, staff, and the wider Long Island community for future programming and collaborations.
