BA Multidisciplinary Studies (Anthropology, History, and Linguistics)

On her Major:

Multidisciplinary Studies (anthropology, history, linguistics). I originally was an anthropology major, but switched to history with a minor in classics with the goal of being a professor of classical antiquity. Then I realized there’s no jobs for that these days, so I switched to Multidisciplinary and added a Linguistics concentration with the goal of being a speech-language pathologist, but cried every day at the thought of being one. Eventually I realized I could be an Audiologist instead and am now happily pursuing that!

Favorite class:

The Classical Tradition with Dr. Kelly Dugan. Dr. Dugan is teaching elsewhere now, but her course was enthralling. I don’t think I ever missed a day! Dr. Dugan taught us all about the Odyssey and antiquity, encouraging our own research and understanding of the subject. For my final project, I crocheted a 10-foot long tapestry based on the myth of Arachne, and it was a hit amongst the class!

Interests:

Classical antiquity -- shocker! I consider myself an informal scholar of classical antiquity and learn more about it every day! I studied abroad in Greece during my time at SBU just to further my knowledge. I’m also learning Greek and Latin.

Post-graduation plans:

MSU Doctor of Audiology (AuD) program for the next four years!

Advice:

Get out there! The vibrancy of campus comes from its people. Go to club meetings and events, sit next to people in class, and really do your best to make friends. SBU students are some of the kindest, worldliest, and smartest people you’ll meet. You just have to meet them!

Favorite memory:

My favorite memory occurred before I started my first semester! I had a friend give me a tour of campus and spent the day exploring, weaving in between buildings and fountains. The day was so hot, I was tempted to jump into every water feature I saw. I remember being so enthralled by the campus and so utterly excited to begin my studies here. It changed the trajectory of my life.

Anything else:

Thank you to SBU Hillel. I got through it all thanks to you guys.
