END OF SEMESTER: SPRING CLOSING INFORMATION

All residents must submit their check-out plans in the Housing Portal between Tuesday, April 7, 2026, and Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

Undergraduate residence halls close on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 6:00 PM.

Current graduate housing agreements end on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 12:00 PM.

End of Semester: Quiet Hours Policies

24-Hour Quiet Hours begin on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 4:00 PM and end on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 8:00 PM.

  • During the final exam period, students may not host guests in the residence halls or apartments. Guests are only allowed to assist with a student's move-out.
  • While 24-hour quiet hours are in effect, residents are expected to ensure that they are not producing sound that can be heard beyond their room as students are studying and may be completing term assignments or taking exams virtually.
  • While 24-hour quiet exists during the final exam period, that does not mean that normal sounds associated with move-out (ie, vacuums, carts rolling, etc.) and general day-to-day activities (ie, lawn mowing, vacuuming, etc.) will not occur.
  • Students who violate any housing policy may be directed to vacate their spring assignment prior to other residents during the final exam period.

Checkout Checklist

Prior to completing your checkout, please ensure you do the following:

  • Speak to your roommates/suitemates regarding when everyone will leave and determine who will be responsible for ensuring your room/suite is in the same condition it was when you moved in.
  • Remove all personal property from your bedroom and the common areas of your suite.
  • Reset furniture to its original layout.
  • Sweep/vacuum your room, wipe down surfaces, and remove all trash.
  • Large trash items should be brought directly to the dumpster outside the building.
  • Leave your closet and dresser/pedestal doors open so staff can quickly confirm that all property is removed and complete your checkout.
  • Close and lock your windows.
  • Leave your curtains open.
  • If applicable, set your thermostat to 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • If you have a bicycle, please take it home with you. Any bicycles left over the summer (including bicycles chained up and secured outside) may be cut and removed.
  • Do a walkthrough and ensure you have removed all property from your assigned bedroom (including closets, drawers, etc.), common areas, and the suite/apartment bathroom.
  • Remove any lanyards/keychains that your key may be on.
  • Close and lock your bedroom door and the door to your suite/apartment.

When checking out, one's room should be reset to its original condition. If there is any damage to your room, you should discuss it with your building's Residence Hall Director (RHD) or your area office.

Damage billing is determined by your building's RHD during final building inspections. While a Resident Assistant (RA) will assist you during checkout to ensure that your space is clear of personal belongings and secured, RAs do not determine damage billing. Any questions about damage or damage billing need to be discussed with your building's RHD directly.

Important note about billing for damages in shared spaces: If two or more persons occupy the same apartment/room/suite and it cannot be determined which student is responsible for the damage, the charge will be assessed equally among the residents. If damage occurs due to another resident's behavior, it is recommended that you report it to your Residence Hall Director for further review of liability.

Undergraduate students must fully move out of their residence hall 24 hours after their last final or by 6:00 PM on May 20, 2026, whichever occurs first.

All students will be required to complete an End of Semester checkout form in the housing portal to provide their Spring 2026 checkout plans. The form will go live on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, and closes on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.  Students who need to remain on campus beyond May 20, 2026, but no later than Friday, May 22, 2026, can request a late checkout through this form.  If you have any questions, please contact your RHD or Area Office directly.

  • Late departure extensions are limited and are usually approved only for students graduating (verified through data from students' accounts) and for those who need to stay late to support closing operations/commencement for a unit or department (verified through lists shared with campus partners).
  • Students with an approved late extension request may remain until Friday, May 22, 2026, at 6:00 PM. Graduating seniors participating in the last commencement ceremony (HSC) on Friday, May 22, 2026, may request an extension until 9:00 PM to check out.
  • Students with a late extension will be billed $66 per night for all nights beyond May 20, 2026. Students who are staying until Friday, May 22, 2026, to participate in their commencement ceremony are not billed for any additional nights. All charges related to a Spring 2026 extension will show as a summer housing bill in the summer billing term.
  • Students with a final exam scheduled after 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 20, can request a later check-out on May 20 by 9:00 PM without paying the $66.00 late stay charge. To be eligible, students will be asked to provide proof of their exam time for verification by their RHD.

Students who have summer housing for summer session 1 will be able to stay in their spring residence hall until their assigned move-over date to their summer assignment. Summer move-over will occur between May 25 and May 26, 2026, as spaces are cleaned and made available for students to move in.

Where do I check out when I am ready?

After one has prepared their space for checkout, they can check out with a staff member. If you are checking out before 7:00 PM on Saturday, May 9, 2026, you will complete your checkout at the area office between 9:00 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday.

After 7:00 PM on May 9, 2026, and throughout final exams, students in residence halls will complete their checkout via the RA office in their building or via the area office in apartment-style communities. RAs will be available between 8:30 AM and 10:00 PM throughout and after the final exam period to assist you with your checkout.

Students are discouraged from checking out between 10 PM and 8:30 AM, as moving out can disrupt other community members. If a student must move out between 10 PM and 8:30 AM, they must obtain an express checkout envelope from the RA in the hall office while the office is open. While clearing their room, a student using the express checkout envelope will need to fill out the envelope, seal their key inside, and drop the envelope in the designated key box in their residence hall or outside the Area Office in apartment-style communities. Students who utilize the express checkout options waive their right to dispute damage billing for their space.

Residents are expected to attend a closing building meeting hosted by their RA. Your building's RHD or your assigned RA will reach out with information about when closing meetings are scheduled.

To aid our team in facilitating a smooth transition from the 2025-2026 agreement to the 2026-2027 agreement starting June 1, students will be required to complete their End of Semester plans via the Housing Portal to provide their Spring 2026 checkout plans. The form will go live on April 7 and close on May 6.

Current Graduate Agreements end on May 31, 2026, at 12:00 PM.

All graduate students who did not select a 12-month agreement and did not complete the room selection process must be fully moved out by 12:00 PM on May 31, 2026.

Students who completed room selection and chose a 12-month agreement will be contacted in mid- to late May if they selected a different space than the one they are currently living in, with information about when they will move into their new apartment.
