Programs Supported by the Provost's Office
Faculty in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (FAHSS) Program
Encourage interdisciplinary conversation, research, and teaching within and across arts, humanities, and social sciences disciplines. Two award opportunities are available: individual projects funded at up to $3,000, and interdisciplinary projects funded at up to $7,500.

President's Distinguished Travel Grants
Supporting national and international scholarship, this program covers the costs of traveling to present their work at professional conferences.

Stony Brook Foundation Trustees Faculty Awards
This award recognizes promising early-career faculty for their significant contributions to research, scholarship, and art-making, and support those faculty in advancing their work.

University-Supported Programs
Discovery Prize
This biennial competition supports faculty researchers in advancing pioneering scientific breakthroughs. The prize aims to support faculty in pursuing high-risk, high-reward basic research.

BNL Seed Grants
The Office of Brookhaven National Laboratory Affairs sponsors an annual seed grant program to support joint initiatives between scientists from Stony Brook University and Brookhaven National Laboratory.

OR&I Seed Grant Program
Managed by the Office of Proposal Development within the Office for Research and Innovation, the OR&I Seed Grant Program aims to give Stony Brook faculty a competitive edge in securing external research funds by supporting and fostering innovative scientific and scholarly activities that will lead to the development of proposals with a greater likelihood of success.

Special Initiative Seed Grant Programs
Periodically, the Office for Research and Innovation offers seed grants to support special university initiatives. Past programs have focused on supporting research in artificial intelligence, climate science, and biomedical sciences, among other areas.
