Supporting National and International Scholarship in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences
Deadline: Spring 2027
Maximum award amount: $2,000
Grants will cover travel from September 1, 2026, to August 31, 2027
Program Eligibility and Proposal Requirements
- Faculty in arts, humanities, or social science fields.
- Librarians, lecturers, and research faculty may apply.
- Proposals from junior faculty will be given priority.
- Proposals from senior faculty may be considered if the conference will move their research forward significantly, or help them establish themselves in a new field of inquiry.
Your 1-2 page proposal should include your name, departmental contact information, and the following information:
- Describe and justify your attendance at the conference, including whether you are delivering a paper.
- Explain the significance of the paper to your research or scholarship.
- Explain the significance of the venue in which you will deliver your paper.
- Provide a budget with a detailed cost breakdown, including justified estimates for
each line item. For example, a Google flights estimate for air travel.
- Travel grants do not cover per diem expenses.
- Describe any other internal or external funding opportunities to support your travel, including opportunities that you will apply to, are waiting to hear about, and/or have already received. Be as specific as possible.
Proposals do not need to request the maximum award amount of $2,000. It may be in the applicant's best interest to request a lower amount.
Faculty who receive travel grants will work with Stony Brook Procurement's Travel and Card Programs to submit expenses and receive reimbursements.
