Bachelor's/Master's Program

Teacher Education: BA/MA Combined Program

The History Department offers a combined Bachelor's & Master's program.

Students who are interested in public school teaching may combine this course of study with the undergraduate social studies certification program. This program allows qualified students to earn both a bachelor's and a master's degree in History and Social Studies Teacher Certification in five years.

Interested students should apply for admission to the Undergraduate Teaching Certification program in Spring of their Sophomore year, then apply to the History Graduate BA/MA Program in the Spring of their Junior year.

BA/MA program in history & social studies: Students admitted to this five-year program follow the same course of studies as students admitted to our MA and PhD programs, and—along with teacher certification—they earn a master’s degree in history, rather than teaching. This program prepares students for secondary school teaching, doctoral study in history, and/or other careers that build on the research, analytical, and writing skills acquired in the graduate program in history.
