Student Engagement & Activities is looking for enthusiastic, passionate, and driven students willing to be a source of support and information for student organization leaders. Specialists will work independently and collaboratively on projects that enhance the student experience and engage the campus community through the planning and execution of training and events, student organization advisement and support, and outreach initiatives. These positions allow students to give back to the community by supporting and developing student leaders, and helping students find their place on campus. You will be challenged to think critically and work with a team of dedicated student leaders and staff. The Student Engagement Support Specialists report to the Coordinators for Student Engagement & Activities. This position is for the 2026-2027 academic year, with the possibility of renewal for the following year.

  Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Student Organization Support: Provide student voice and assistance to enhance the quality of support of our 400+ recognized student organizations, including:
  • Process incoming reservation requests through the online reservations system, 25Live; ensure compliance with departmental policies and standards.
  • Process forms and event requests through the online club management system, SB Engaged.
  • Manage correspondence with student organization leadership (reservation confirmations, fielding general inquiries, etc.). 
  • Serve as liaison between student organizations and professional staff. 
  • Assist with the development and implementation of training, workshops, resources, and special events to support our student organizations and their leaders. 
  • Administrative Duties: Assist in the daily office operations of the Department of Student Engagement and Activities, including:
  • Answering office phones, responding to email inquiries, and handling walk-in inquiries. 
  • Serve on committees and represent the department on panels and presentations as needed.
  • Assist with marketing and assessment of events and departmental services.
  • Attend supervisory and departmental meetings and training.
  • Event Planning and Management: Plan Involvement Fairs, Student Life Awards, and more! Provide on-site support at student, departmental events, and campus traditions as needed, which sometimes take place in the evening and/or on weekends.

  Required:

  • Desire to support student organization leaders in managing their clubs and contributing to campus life.
  • Desire to be a leader and role model, including on-campus, online, and in the community.
  • Be enrolled as a matriculated undergraduate student at Stony Brook University for 2025-2026
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.25.
  • Maintain appropriate conduct and standing. A sanction of University Probation or higher, or a sanction of restriction from holding leadership positions, will disqualify candidates.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills (verbally, written, and interpersonally).
  • Punctual, dependable, and adaptable. 
  • Demonstrated effective use of organizational and planning skills, and managed workflow.
  • Proficiency using various software, social media platforms, Google Apps, etc.
  • Previous experience working collaboratively as part of a diverse team, and both establishing and maintaining effective peer and supervisory relationships.

  • Time Commitment: 

  • • Expected to work approximately 8-10 hours per week
    • Willing and able to work both the fall and spring semesters. Must be able to maintain an established work schedule.

  • Prior experience working with or being part of a club or organization, and/or involvement in campus life..
  • Previous experience working in an office environment.

• Undergraduate Event Coordinator (Applications are Closed)

  The Event Coordinator position offers students an opportunity to learn to plan, execute, and assess programs with the assistance of other student event coordinators and professional staff. Event Coordinators will report to the Coordinator for Student Engagement and Activities and aim to specifically enhance the quality of programming and campus life.

  Position tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the lead event coordinator through assisting in the development, planning, and execution of weekly events for the Department of Student Engagement & Activities
  • Provide staffing support at 1-2 weekly in-person evening events (typically on Fridays and Saturdays), including set-up, management, and breakdown of events as necessary
  • Be a present and active member at weekly staff meetings by providing ideas, post-event evaluations, and contributing to the success of overall programming
  • Attend and participate in training and supervision meetings
  • Represent Student Engagement & Activities at campus events as needed 
  • Build hype around weekend events through planning weekday tabling and outreach efforts
  • Other duties as assigned
  • In addition to the event coordinator responsibilities, staff members may take on functional assignments, including but not limited to 
  • Inventory Management

  Remuneration

  This is an hourly-paid student assistant position. The successful candidate will be expected to work approximately 8-10 hours per week at $17/hour. Hours and pay rate are subject to change based on the annual budget and scheduling approvals. This position can also be done through internship credit or Federal Work Study.

  The Event Staff position is designed to offer students an opportunity to learn how to execute and assess programs with the assistance of other student coordinators and professional staff. Event Staff will report to the Coordinator for Student Engagement and Activities and aim to specifically enhance the quality of programming and campus life.

  Position tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the execution of weekly events for the Department of Student Engagement & Activities
  • Provide staffing support at 1-2 weekly in-person evening events (typically on Fridays and Saturdays), including set-up, check-in management, and breakdown of events.
  • Serve as a support to the lead event coordinator for multiple events per semester, including staffing events, connecting with event attendees, and gathering feedback.

  Remuneration

  This is an hourly-paid student assistant position for students with Federal Work Study or for Internship Credit. This position can also be done for internship credit. Interns can receive up to 3 credit hours for this role, depending on the hours committed to the position.

• Student Engagement and Leadership Consultant Internship

  Are you a student club leader who is knowledgeable about running a club and wants to help others? Student Engagement and Activities is seeking enthusiastic, passionate, and well-informed club leaders who are willing to serve as a source of support and inspiration for their fellow organization leaders.

   

  Apply to be a Student Engagement and Leadership Consultant Intern (SEAL) and become a peer mentor to our club leaders, helping them learn and navigate organization management more effectively.  'SEALs' will work independently and collaboratively with a small team of fellow student leaders, creating educational content, implementing training, gathering feedback, and serving as a resource and peer mentor for club leaders. You will be challenged to think creatively and critically, and to use your experience to enhance how we, in Student Engagement and Activities, support our 500+ clubs on campus. 

   

  Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Student Organization Support: Provide student voice and assistance to enhance the management, support, and training provided to our 500+ recognized student organizations, including:
  • Assist with the development and implementation of training, workshops, resources, and special events to support our student organizations and their leaders.
  • Serve as a liaison between student organizations and professional staff.
  • Facilitate and provide consultation to club leaders on the SBEngaged platform.
  • Provide guidance and best practices to club leaders on various organizational management matters. Host open office hours for club leaders and help manage the email inbox.
  • Work alongside professional staff to solicit feedback from club leaders and propose recommendations for improvement.
  • Research and benchmark best practices in club and organization administration, and propose changes and ideas for implementation to professional staff to enhance our current operations 
  • Assist in the development and creation of a Digital Leadership Library of resources and tools for club leaders on various club/organization management topics (budgeting, recruitment, conflict resolution, marketing, fundraising,  etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned

  Remuneration 

  This position is for academic credit only. Students hired as interns will be expected to work 12 hours per week and will earn up to 6 academic credits (3 per semester) for their successful completion of EXT 288 or EXT 488.  Tuition remission, health insurance, and retirement benefits are not included as part of this position. 

  SEAL Interns will be provided with Student Engagement and Activities swag and a stole (upon graduation) and will be part of the Student Life staff within our Divisions. 

   

  Skills and Qualifications

  Required:

  • Must be enrolled as a matriculated undergraduate student at Stony Brook University 
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.25.
  • Maintain appropriate conduct and standing. A sanction of University Probation or higher, or a sanction of restriction from holding leadership positions, will disqualify candidates.
  • Must be a student leader of a recognized student organization for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. 
  • Desire to support student organization leaders in managing their clubs and contributing to campus life, and be a role model, including on-campus, online, and in the community.
  • Must be able to maintain an established work schedule of 12 hours per week. 
  • Must be registered for either EXT 288 or EXT 488 through the Career Center.
  • Must have a faculty sponsor secured for the internship.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills (verbally, written, and interpersonally).
  • Available for the following dates:
  • Staff training during New Seawolf Welcome Week, August 17th-21st, 2026
  • Fall Involvement Fairs:  August 26th, 2026, and September 2nd, 2026
  • Available weekly for staff meetings as determined by mutual availability 

   

  Preferred:

  • Additional club leader experience beyond the 26-27 academic year, and experience with planning events and advising students. 
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple projects and to work autonomously. 
  • Willing and able to work the full academic year
