Traditions

Throughout the year, members of our campus community come together to learn about and celebrate Stony Brook's unique diversity. Popular annual traditions include:

	Hispanic Heritage Month Hispanic Heritage Month within Stony Brook University is a celebration of the Hispanic culture and contribution to the University community throughout the month of October.
	Native American Heritage Awareness The Native American Heritage Awareness Program series highlights the diverse and rich history and culture of Native America while also educating about current contemporary issues.
	Festival of Lights The Festival of Lights is an intercultural program highlighting various religions celebrated during the Holiday season.
	Black History Month Black History Month events during the month of February celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of people of the African Diaspora and the contemporary issues affecting them.
	Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is recognized during the month of April at Stony Brook and celebrates the AAPI cultures that exist at the University.
	Diversity Day Diversity Day is an annual celebration of the diversity that exists at Stony Brook University. The campus tradition is celebrated alongside Strawberry Fest in the spring.
	Women's History Month Stony Brook University recognizes Women’s History Month with a series of events on campus throughout the month of March.
