Sharks and Seawolves at Stony Brook Southampton is a new college credit program designed to strengthen educational and career pathways
for East End students and residents.
Launching January 26, 2026, this innovative partnership allows eligible high school students, community college students, and adult learners to earn transferable college credit through courses offered at the Stony Brook Southampton campus — without traveling far from home.
Participants can enroll in one to three college-level courses, taught by faculty from Suffolk County Community College and Stony Brook University.

Courses Offered - Spring 2026
PSY101 – Introduction to Psychology (Suffolk County Community College Course)
An introduction to the science of psychology and its history. Special emphasis placed on the field's foundations: research methods, biological bases of behavior, and laws of learning. These essential topics will lay the groundwork for students' critical examination of psychological theory and application as it relates to subjects that might include lifespan development, psychopathology, personality, therapies, cognition, sensation/perception, social psychology and others. Note: Fulfills SUNY-GE Social Sciences. (3 credits)

HSC100 – Introduction to Healthcare and Health Professions (Suffolk County Community College Course)
This course will provide an overview of the U.S. healthcare delivery system including healthcare facilities, healthcare reimbursement, the role of technology and the legal aspects. Healthcare roles and professions will be explored as well as a blueprint for planning a healthcare career. (3 credits)

SBU102 – Marine Biology of Eastern Long Island (Stony Brook University Course)
An exploration of select culturally and ecologically important marine organisms found in the waters of eastern Long Island. Taxonomic relationships, morphological characteristics, ecological roles, and conservation issues will be discussed for each taxa, with an emphasis on scientific research conducted by the Stony Brook University School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, and the work of local conservation organizations: one credit. Taught by Stony Brook faculty. (1 credit)

How to Enroll
Because this program includes courses offered by two institutions, students will complete separate registrations depending on which courses they choose.
Don’t worry — the process is straightforward, and we’ll provide guidance every step
of the way.
Step 1: Choose Your Courses
Students may enroll in one to three courses for Spring 2026:
- PSY101 – Introduction to Psychology (Suffolk County Community College)
- HSC100 – Introduction to Healthcare and Health Professions (Suffolk County Community College)
- SBU 102 – Marine Biology of Eastern Long Island (Stony Brook University – 1 credit)
Step 2: Apply & Register (Based on Course Selection)
Suffolk County Community College Courses (PSY101 and/or HSC100)
To enroll in Suffolk courses, students must:
- Apply to Suffolk County Community College
- Register for courses through Suffolk once admitted
High school students will enroll through Suffolk’s early college/dual enrollment process.

Stony Brook University Course (SBU 102 – Marine Biology of Eastern Long Island)
To enroll in the Stony Brook course, students must:
- Apply to Stony Brook University as a non-matriculated student
- Register for the course through Stony Brook
High school students will enroll through their high school’s enrollment process.
Tuition & Fees
Tuition rates depend on student status and institution.
High School Students
- Receive significantly reduced tuition
- Approximately $100 per credit
- Discounts apply to both Suffolk and Stony Brook courses
- Coordinated through participating school districts and the program team
- Open to select students from Hampton Bays High School and applicants from other East End high schools.
College Students & Adult Learners
Suffolk County Community College
- $252 per credit
- Plus applicable Suffolk fees
Stony Brook University
- $292 per credit
- Plus applicable university fees
Transferable Credit
- Suffolk courses transfer within the SUNY system and to many four-year institutions
- SBU 102 is a Stony Brook University undergraduate credit
- Students should consult academic advisors regarding transfer policies based on future degree plans
Important Note for Students Taking Multiple Courses
Students enrolling in both Suffolk and Stony Brook courses will complete both application processes. This ensures:
- Proper academic credit
- Accurate tuition billing
- Smooth credit transfer
