Orientation Fee

The orientation fee of $300 is required for all new students except for EOP/AIM students and can be paid through the  SOLAR account. We recommend that you pay your orientation fee at the same time that you accept your admission and pay your tuition deposit and housing deposit (if applicable). Your orientation fee should be paid no later than two weeks before your assigned orientation date.

The orientation fee of $300 provides the students with two programs. A one-day orientation session (Orientation Part I) welcomes the students to the university, with an overview of the undergraduate experience, a meal, community building activities, academic advising, ID photos, and registration for classes. During this time,   family members and guests may attend a separate orientation program  where they are introduced to the campus resources. The second program, Experience Stony Brook, is during the weekend prior to the start of the semester. This second part of orientation focuses on student responsibilities and expectations through workshops and theater performances, and includes several social and community building activities. Students learn about campus resources and opportunities.

In addition to the $300 orientation fee, all new international students will have an additional $50 International Student Extended Orientation Fee billed to their student accounts to cover the required multi-day international student orientation.
